Life and Learning
We started "homeschooling" fall of 2013. I say ""homeschooling"" because it doesn't really capture our style of learning. We are fortunate to live in a great community for alternative learning and resources are everywhere. A lot of our time is spent downtown taking classes at our local homeschool co-op. There, the girls have studied a variety of subjects from mandala drawing and expressive dance to anatomy, history and math. When we are learning at home, things are pretty relaxed. Sometimes they need a, ahem...gentle nudge, but for the most part the girls do whatever enriching activities they choose. I take note of their interests and create opportunities for further study and related activities. We read books and magazines together, search the internet for info, watch documentaries and visit historical sites and museums. The girls like to learn about the world they live in and I just do my best to keep it interesting and connect them to resources. It's not always easy, and some days I fantasize about sending them on the next available school bus. Overall, it works for us, but we are still taking it one year at a time.
